Will Pinterest be the next Social Commerce?

Pinterest is a virtual pinboard that allows you to organize and share all the beautiful and interesting images or links you find on the web that you feel are worth sharing. The pins can be categorized into several boards or topics that you are interested.  You can also browse pinboards created by other people to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests. Once you have pinned any images, these images can be “likened” by any other users just like Facebook. The pins can also be “Repinned” just like Twitter; and you can also follow other Pinterest users as well as having followers too.

It has been 2 years since Pinterest was started and you need to be invited in order to start using Pinterest. The number of users has been growing tremendously. The question is – can Pinterest, a Social Networking sites that promotes the sharing of images, pictures and links – become another Social Commerce site?

The internal data from Monetate, which provided the infographic below via Mashable, will help you to determine whether Pinterest can help you to be one of the social media tools to market your products.
