The Network marketer who adapts the centralized method often depends on his or her own charisma to work which does not have a lasting effect on the system. More often then not, some network marketing companies do have some charismatic distributors who were performing well when they first started the business. However, as their “personal stories” were being told everyday, it becomes so common that the listeners or people get less interested and tired. Due to this, they are not able to create deep and strong organizations.

Thus, the system traps itself in a vicious cycle of having to refresh and turn over their so called ‘speakers’ often so as to bring in people with different background, rank, age and experience. Should the demographics of the staff be homogeneous, such as; will the speakers and trainers are too young, the organization will be in trouble. Unless the system has distributors that are very evened out in terms of personal and group characteristics while maintaining professional image with a standard set of grooming and attitude that can only come with exact duplication, it will excel and not trapped within.

In some countries, we could still see the mass of people who are into network marketing business who have this reliance on the charismatic icons of leaders in their organizations. This is rather ‘dangerous’ because this person or persons cannot afford to make any mistakes. He is also restricted in the sense that he cannot even fall sick or make a recreational overseas trip unless he bring his whole downlines together with him.

This will also means that it is too much of a risk to rely on the success or failure of your entire business on this speaker or speakers. Imagine, what if the speaker makes mistakes? What are you going to do?

Other than that should this speakers are distributors from a different organization, it would throw the system into chaos! Thus, the enlightened network marketer should always handle his or her own business and with the aid of the correct know-how, the upline, through gatherings and usage of system tools, he or she can do the business in a less risky, correct and stable manner.

There are many other disadvantages and loopholes in the centralized training method, such as squabbles regarding money matters, personal arguments among people, etc. and most of which cannot be properly resolved. This will cause much wastage of time and money.

Training is one of the most important tools in the network marketing industry. With proper training and guidelines organized by the system and the direct selling companies, the distributors will eventually gained all the knowledges and the know-how on executing their business. Eventhough marketing and products training are important in the industry, if you want to sustain in the industry, personal development and other soft skills are the most important in order to be successful.

Since 1998, I’ve attended many network marketing trainings conducted by the direct selling companies and Systems I was involved in. To date, I still attending to such training just to keep myself motivated and increasing my knowledge in the industry. However, there is something that I found out to be not easily understand by most people unless you are the type of person that is very observant. Perhaps, this is something that has not been openly discussed and mentioned by the so called network marketing “gurus” or “leaders”.

There are 2 training concepts adapted by network marketing organizations – centralized and decentralized training methodology.

The Centralized training methods requires high startup capital to set-up a training centre. This could be explained by the fact that in order to grow big, all businesses involve startup costs and investments, which include rental cost, deposits, utilities, training materials, infrastructures, etc. However, most of this business types, dies a natural cause. These businesses at first do attract a lot of people to join and operate, but as time goes by, this figure dwindles and some people even leave after realizing that they do not earn the money that was promised by the system. This is often caused by the rigidities caused by the training centre. However, do take note that sometimes, this does not apply to densely populated countries with special geographical or demographical attributes.

Unlike the more developed areas, it is hard to gather the required manpower and capital to operate for those live in remote areas. If you think that network marketing business could only be done in developed areas, do think twice. It has been proven that people from these areas also succeed in the business. Remember, network marketing business provides an opportunity for people without resources or shops to be trained with the correct know-how in running the business.

Duplication is the most important in order to succeed in the business. This is the area that the system must excel because while everybody is talking about the copying process, it is bound to deviate when it goes down deeper in the network. However, it is often mentioned in training that the duplication process is corned out in the incorrect manner at the training centres, which eventually resulting in disintegration and instability of the whole network. (A point to note here). It is also being argued that the inability of a centralized system to duplicate is due to the fact that the information and training methods passed down from one person to the another down the lines gets distorted somehow. This is due to the fact that human beings always have the opinion that they themselves are bound to be correct and start to formulate their own theories about the system thus passing down to their downlines. If this happen, the centralized system can never achieve the ultimate aim of complete duplication.

Another pressing problem with the centralized training method is the mixing of your downlines with sidelines. People are often confused from the constant arguments and comments about their uplines and downlines that are expected to occur in any organization. Negative influence could also happen if the situation is not being handled. A good network marketing system would discourage the different groups of people in their network to be in a situation where they can mix around freely too often.

Another thing to be noted about centralized method is the inability to generate leaders in its process. A true leader needs to go on his own and experience the whole network marketing process for himself in order to gain the kind of experience, mistakes and must be able to lead others. An effective system should shows the distributor how to work independently or with his working upline and then conducts his own gathering and training sessions. Hence he is able to progressively train the inexperienced downlines into seasoned network marketing veterans.

There are many other problems that I observed that could disintegrate the unity of a centralized training methodology, unless it is run by an effective proven system that knows how to handle subjective creatures called human beings.
