The Perfect Business

On my previous blogs, I shared how I came to know about MLM and Network Marketing and why I’ve been holding on to it. One of the reasons I sustained in the industry is knowledge that I earned through experience and reading books, articles, etc. Most of us agreed that knowledge is power! But sad to say that only a small number of us knows how to use the way it should be applied.

If you want to know more about MLM or Network marketing, read the book ‘The Business SchoolClick here to purchase book‘ by Robert Kiyosaki (The Rich Dad Poor Dad fame) and Sharon Lechter.  It will open up your mind on this subject.  I also recommend his Rich Dad Poor Dad and The Cashflow Quadrant books. Below is a video by him about The Perfect Business.

If anyone of you who have the desire to do a business, but does not know what industry to choose, give a thought to Network Marketing or MLM. You can start as a part-time to earn extra income and upgrade to full-time when you are comfortable with it. Remember, if you want to succeed, then Network Marketing should be treated as a business.

Cheers

PS. From 1998 to to date, most Direct Selling or MLM companies that I joined, basically have Wellness products as one of their niches.  But WHY? Share with you soon…

Because of the System, I ……..

If you want to succeed in MLM, do not jump from one company to another within a year. It’s good to have a long-term mindset. In other words, it should be a long term plan for about 3 to 5 years. Between 1998 to 2006, I jumped from one company to another for 8 times! Though I have reasons for doing so, it’s still not a good example to be duplicated.

There are many reasons why I failed in other companies. Frankly, it was not because of the bad experiences that I encountered, but it’s because of the System. Yes, it’s all about SYSTEM!

Network Marketing is a people business. If you do not have a proper system to run the business, you will fail. One of the characteristics of a good system is to set a long-term mindset. This was one of the reasons why I did not blamed my friend or sponsor when I was first introduced about the industry in 1998. I did not see any system being practiced by him!

Same goes to all the companies I joined. There was no proper systems to be duplicated! I nearly gave up on this industry even though I knew that this is one of the sources that can upgrade the current condition of my life.

It was in 2006, together with my wife, I was introduced by my colleague’s sister (now my uplines) who was a distributor with Nuskin Enterprises. At that time, I was a distributor with the 7th company. Let me cut short the event that changed my mindset towards Network Marketing. I joined Nuskin not because of the company, but because of the SYSTEM. It was in Nuskin that I was introduced with one of the best traditional system to do MLM or NM business.

Now, the question is, do you think it is enough to stick with the traditional system to run your network marketing business? Sad to say that after doing it full-time to date, I concluded that it was not enough. What we need are various methods of getting people to know and understand the network marketing business. We need tools to expand our business and sell the products; but we are not changing the principles of the traditional system.

Network Marketing is a wave and not a trend! Do you still remember Roti Boy? It was so successful at one time until you have to undergo a long queue just to get a bite of it! What happen to it now? It’s gone because it’s a trend and not a wave.

Whether you like it or not, Network Marketing will be around for long. It’s not going to die. We must know how to manage and run the business if you are going to compete and succeed in this industry.

Is there any particular Niche in MLM or NM?

PS. Systems are drafted and planned by people. There is no such thing as a good system in the market, however, if the system is proven, why don’t we follow and duplicate it? Can we change? Yes, if it can benefit and support the current system.

How I Was Introduced To MLM or Network Marketing

Multi-Level Marketing(MLM) or Network Marketing was introduced to me by chance when a friend of mine wanted me to purchase some products from Malaysia way back in 1998. He kept on stressing on the goodness of the products; but stated that they could not be found on the shelves of any shops in SG.

After the first meeting with him (products presentation), he kept on calling me to ask whether I was ready to get the products as he was going to the company situated in our neighbouring country to get the stocks. He further elaborated that because the products were so good that he managed to get repeated customers. He mentioned few names that I’ve known. Btw, he did not even asked me whether how I felt about the products and whether I was interested in them.

I then finally decided to buy not because of the products but I want to maintain my friendship with him.  He asked me for my personal details and told me that I need to be a member of the company in order to buy the products. I was stunned! In the first place I was not even highlighted that I must be a member to have the products. The best part of it, these was informed after I gave him the money! He confidently said that he will settled the first year membership fees. Again, due to friendship, I just controlled myself.

The products were delivered to me as promised. I was given the company profile, some documents, and a membership card and was advised to keep them in a safe place. He simply went "missing" after that. The next month he appeared again and this time he brought along products that I’ve never ordered! He told me to pay for it. Again, I was stunned! He told me that as an active member I have to purchase products every month!

Now, what will you do if you are in this position. What will your impression about MLM or Network Marketing. Will you be angry and felt cheated? This bad experiences can actually killed off a person interest in Network Marketing.  But not me…..

My first experiences were a painful one. However, during that time I was actually an employee – meaning I rely heavily on my pay checks every month. During that time I was still working in the hospitality industries and I felt that my job has becoming such a routine. There was nothing for me to learn or upgrade in the profession I was in. I did the same tasks day-in day-out. Even though I was supposed to work from 9 to 5, I never really enjoyed the stipulated time.  I will normally be back home at about 11pm and back in office as early as 7.30am. I actually wanted to move on to another industries. At that time the use of the computer and Internet were the in things. (Back to my MLM experience…)

My network marketing friend has actually introduced me to a new industry.  I knew that there was something good about it, but since I was experiencing the bad ones, I just kept this inside my mind; hold it and told myself that I will give it a thought when the day comes.

Meanwhile, I left the job and managed to find an office hour work. Why? I decided to further my studies and enrolled in a private computer school for 2 years.

During these 2 years, I encountered another bad experience with another friend in another MLM company.  Do you think I give up?  Nope.  These experiences made me more attracted to Network Marketing.  What I need was someone to show me the ‘lights’…

PS. Since the year 2000, I have been in and out of many MLM or Network Marketing companies. If you want to succeed, stay with the company that have a system to guide you to do the business, not only distributing products.

I’ve tested and experienced many traditional MLM Systems. While some of them are good and workable depending on how you looked at it, there are many which are "sucks" and "carbon-copied" from other systems, and claimed to be theirs. Anyone has the right to claim, etc. etc. etc., but we as a user, have more right to choose which system can bring us success. …..    (more sharing on my next posting).

People, Goals & System

It was quite a hectic day for me on the eve of new year.  Left home at about 2pm to visit my mum at the hospital.  She was actually diagnosed to have urine and lung infections.  Btw, she’s 90 years old!

I left the hospital at about 4.15pm to attend a meeting at Bay View Hotel.  I managed to arrive on time – 5pm.  The meeting ended at about 6.30pm. Left for my prayers before continuing the weekly system meeting at 8pm. I’ve never missed the weekly meeting since 2006 unless I have to attend to other family or business matters. This is the only time where I will meet positive people on network marketing or MLM.

I then rushed home to be with my family.  I’m glad that all my children were at home. None of them were out there celebrating the new year. We have our supper together while watching the live coverage on welcoming the new year on TV. There were thousands of people out there. What do they actually benefit?

Just imagine if these people will behave the same way when they were given or presented with an opportunity that can change their life! Something that could earn them additional income.  An opportunity that can give them freedom in terms of time, money and health!

It’s 2009 now. Goals has been listed and prioritised. Lets start planning and focus on the objectives of our goals.  Finish up those that we have overlooked in 2008. Forget the past and look forward. Open up our mind, be on the look-out for opportunities and take action! You will never achieve big results in your life without consistent and persistent action.  This is what I experienced in having my own business.

I will be looking to strengthen my mind, body and spiritual aspects in achieving my goals this year. I’ve challenged myself to achieve something that I never thought of doing it.  I strongly believed that I can do it with the right mentors, systems, products, etc. I can see that something good is coming….

PS. In MLM or Network Marketing business, we must have system that can guide us how to do the business.  However, this system must also show us various methods of prospecting, not only using the traditional methods, but also using communication technologies.
