It’s a People Business! Handle with Care, please?

I accompanied my second son for his medical check-up today.  We took the MRT (train) to our destination (Singapore General Hospital). A small incident happened in our view.

A man about 30 yrs of age was standing with his back facing the entrance.  A middle age lady was standing facing him.  When the train arrived at one of the stations, the lady suddenly barged out; pushing the man without any signs indicating that she will be alighting.  There were some exchanges of words between them.  I came to understand that the man was telling the lady that if she want to go out, excused herself so that he will give her way.  Apparently the lady replied that in the first place he should not be standing and blocking the entrance.  That’s sparked the feel of unhappiness to both parties.  However, when the door closed, arguments immediately stopped and the situation back to norm.

In Network Marketing business, distributors prospect, recruit, share with people almost daily about the business.  Depending on the needs, those who agrees, will join as either a distributor or a consumer.  However, they may not be a "Yes man" forever, except to those who has the desire to succeed; and to those who are labelled prosumers.

In Network Marketing business, it will be a norm to see people come and go.  I’ve experienced it myself, where my downlines who was very active for 3 months, suddenly went missing without a trace. There was no indications or signs that he was giving up the business. But thing happened!

Back to the incident in the train, if the man just ignored the lady whom furthermore was a stranger to him, unnecessary scene may not happened and no feelings will be hurt.

Personally I feel that the master of handling situation the right way when problem arises should be observed and applied on a case by case basis.  It’s one of the important aspects in handling people especially strangers.  These skills are a must in Network Marketing business as it’s all about people business.

Is Having a System Guaranteed Success?

I felt a little bit annoyed and frustrated during the last day of my training.  Luckily all the trainees were understanding and patient.  While the training syllabus were effectively delivered, the computer system failed miserably.  The software was not completely installed and as such some features were not shown to them.  However, I managed to use alternative methods by going back to the old days by using a marker and whiteboard.  It brighten-up my days again.

Network Marketing is a good business if it is done the right way.  It is always back-up by a System that promises to achieve success if it is ‘piously’ duplicated and executed.  In other words, without a good system, the distributor might not succeed in the business.  System is a blueprint on how to do Network Marketing business.  It’s the software! To Network Marketers, System plays an important role in developing their business.

Now, do you see the similarity between my Training and the Network Marketing Business?

It’s all about SYSTEM!  If systems failed, how good you execute your tasks, 50% of your effort is already gone!

Currently, there are many systems available in the market; be it being delivered physically or through the Internet.  The question is, can these chosen system guaranteed success if it is executed the right way?  Some may argue that we should differentiate a computer and NM systems as both are not the same.  That is up to you to think about it, and since we are coming to an end of 2008, it’s good that we review what we’ve done so far.

Systems is an innovation by men, it’s not created by them.  They are mend to be broken and reviewed.  If a new system is found and tested it works, why not we check them out!

See you at the top!

Mindset of the People’s Trainer

Apart from my Network Marketing business, I’m also a freelance trainer in MS Office Applications for Words, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Frontpage, etc.  Currently, conducting a 3 days training on Excel 2002 Expert.  My trainees are generally working adults with the age ranging from 18 to 62 years old.

Generally, apart from imparting knowledge to the students, trainers needs to equipment themselves with soft skills such as how to understand people behaviour, interpersonal and communications skill, build up trainees interest to what is being taught, efficiently applying ice breakers, always show excitement, approachable, shows positive attitude at all times, etc.  However, the most important aspects among all, that should always be in a person, regardless whether you are a trainer or not, is PASSION.  I personally feel that passion is the key word that makes a difference.  You have to love what you are doing.  Passion initiates interest especially when you are sharing knowledge with others.

A network marketers must have the passion in doing the business and must enjoy doing it.  He or she has to continue learning and must be opened to new ideas which could help in imparting the knowledge and opportunity.  In other words, continue to serve and share with others.  Network Marketers are people’s trainer! But how?

Though I have been in the Network Marketing industries for the past 5 years, I only do it full-time early last year.  I’ve experience the high and low in the business but one thing for sure, I will never quit the business.  I see Network Marketing as one of the avenues that can change people life.  For me, it’s about changing my life, my family in obtaining freedom of life.

Continuing to believe, persistent in executing, persevering in the business are not enough if we fail to find ways to market the business and getting people to know what we are doing.  Network Marketing will never die, in fact it constantly growing as the world population are getting closer with each other through the powerful media of the Internet.  Network Marketing is now a global business platform.

A Shop Owner and a NM Distributor…

On Sunday, 14 Dec, I went out for a date with my wife – I meant we went out without the kids around us.  I’m actually taking time-off away from my MLM business.  We went to the Central areas taking a stroll from Raffles Place to Clark Quay then to Raffles City.  We visited The Central, a new shopping complex next to the Singapore River aka Clark Quay.

I pampered myself with a new Motorola Bluetooth stereo head phone.  It didn’t cost me much as I actually received a $100 vouchers from Starhub.  Apart from the head phone, I also bought a 2GB memory stick micro card for my hand phone just to maximise the voucher.  In the end I had to top up $19 for both items.  We went in from one shop to another browsing the products on displayed.  I also purchased a black blazer which cost me about $45.  We went from the top to the ground floor of the Central.  We noticed that there was less human traffic on the upper floor than those on the ground and 2nd floor.  The eating places occupied half of the building.  We left the Central to Raffles City where my wife bought for herself some materials for her scrapbook hobbies.

Now, lets go back to the situation at the Central. When I looked at it, deep in my heart I knew how the owner felt.  They have to pay rental for the shop, salary for the employees, and stock up the whole shop with products just to lure and attract walk in customers.  How about advertising fees, etc.  If they do not have other sources of income apart from retailing, then the future will look bleak and uncertain.  The ongoing financial crisis also play an impact to this small biz owners.

Contrary to MLM biz, distributors do not have to rent a shop, pay salary to employees nor stocking up goods.  Our shop is actually a handy briefcase where we keep all the necessary documents, portfolios and some core feature products that portray the direct selling company.  Even the advertising and events were done by the company to support the distributors.  What’s the cost of investing? Not even the salary of one employee.  Does the current financial situation impact the business? No definite answer to it.

MLM biz is something that could give a person an opportunity that can change life.  Whether it will succeed or otherwise, it totally depends on the effort by the distributor.  One of the considerations in doing the biz, is to have a long-term mindset.  Another to consider is to look out for alternatives ways and methods on how to help people in the biz, I mean getting people to know your products, services.  Build an empire!

The Uniqueness of Direct Selling

I read an article in one of a local magazine about Selling…  This is what it says about Direct Sales.  The writer is an investment banker who switched his careers from the Banking and Investment Industries to Direct Selling – Multi Level Marketing…

" In direct sales, it is more than just selling.  The uniqueness of direct sales is that it is about achieving success in life through selling.  More importantly, it is about inspiring people, and that includes buyers too, to be successful in life via the wonderful profession of selling.

This is very demanding and hence direst salespeople are very passionate sellers.  In every sales, direct salespeople sell with the entire anatomy of the head.  With their minds, they first think about the customers.  With their eyes, they project the optimism and excitement.  With their ears, they earnestly hear the customers.  With their noses, they sniff out the opportunities.  And their mouths, they communicate the benefits.  They close sales with great mutual satisfaction.  The satisfaction is so strong that even customers and friends desire to be part of the selling network!"

Now, this is what I call the Direct Selling Salespeople.  Not only building a database of users, but building an empire of their own.

Now, it takes a long term mind set and planning to be where you are in the industries.  Success never comes easy.  It takes all the hard works, rejections, perseverence, commitment, dedication to achieve it.  If you think you want a fast money, then this is not the right business for you.  Remember, MLM is not a get-rich-quick-scheme, it’s about people!.
